Workplace First Aid: Let’s Be Honest, It’s More Than Just Ticking a Box

Let’s be honest, your last First Aid course was probably… a bit dull, wasn’t it?

You knew the day was coming. You were already working on your exit strategy:
“Dog’s got a vet appointment.”
“Dog’s been run over.”
“Neighbour’s dog’s been run over.”
(Dogs tend to take a lot of hits on First Aid course days, don’t they?)

You turn up to a cold meeting room with instant coffee, fold-out chairs, and a bloke in a shirt and tie wheeling in two tired-looking Resus Annies. Then came the dreaded 30-minute icebreaker (why?) followed by the “I used to be in the secret service” monologue.
(Reality: he probably changed jobs from a not-so-exciting desk job, did a couple of weekend courses, got a teaching cert, and now he’s showing you how to use a triangular bandage.)

Sound familiar?

That’s not how we do things at Optimal First Aid.

Be Honest — What Did You Actually Learn?

Let’s rewind.
The last First Aid course you attended, what did you really learn?
What do you remember?

Probably nothing. Or worse, maybe you remember the biscuits more than the bleeding control.

And what happened after the session?

Your organisation probably got a few certificates in the post… maybe a PDF or two…
Then a couple of years of radio silence until — ping! — an email reminder lands in someone’s inbox (or spam folder) saying it’s time for a refresher.

Sound familiar?

We’ve heard it a thousand times. And we’ve built our service to be the complete opposite.

First Aid That Sticks — Because Lives Might Depend On It

At Optimal First Aid, we don’t just teach CPR and hand out certificates. We make training relevant, real, and dare we say, even enjoyable.

Here’s what you get:

  • Real-world scenarios, not textbook lectures
  • Practical sessions using the kit you actually have
  • Industry-experienced instructors (who don’t make up wild backstories)
  • No icebreakers. Ever.

We make sure your team walks away confident, capable, and actually ready to act if something goes wrong.

But That’s Just the Start — Here's What Comes After

  • Once the course ends, we’re not done. You’ll receive:

    • A tailored post-course training report with our observations and recommendations

    • A check-up on your current First Aid kits and how they match your risk level

    • Advice on what to add or replace in your First Aid box items

    • Help staying compliant with the latest First Aid regulations

    • Reminders for refreshers, kit expiry checks, and ongoing support

Because good Workplace First Aid isn’t a one-off event. It’s an ongoing commitment to keeping your people safe.

Let’s Stop Doing the Bare Minimum

We know how it usually goes — a tick-box exercise every three years just to stay on the right side of the regs. But your team deserves better.

You deserve:

  • Training that prepares people for real emergencies
  • Kits that are fully stocked, up to date, and suited to your risks
  • A provider who sticks around — not one who pops up with an invoice every three years

Want to see what that actually looks like?
Check out our First Aid Regulations page on how we help support you properly, from training to compliance and everything in between. We specialise in practical first aid training in Devon, the Southwest and across the UK.

Because if your next First Aid course feels like the last one…
You’ll probably be Googling excuses again.
(“Sorry, mate. Cat’s fallen down a well this time.”)

Let’s change that.
