It fully meets the requirements of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 and provides the essential knowledge and hands-on skills to manage medical emergencies confidently in both low and high-risk environments.
Building on the 1-Day Emergency First Aid at Work course, this qualification delves deeper into a wider range of workplace incidents from serious injuries to medical conditions ensuring you’re prepared to respond effectively in higher-risk settings such as construction, manufacturing, warehousing, hospitality, and large offices.
It’s also an excellent choice for anyone wanting a thorough, in-depth understanding of first aid for professional or personal development.
By the end of this three-day course, learners will be able to:

The First Aid at Work (FAW) course is fully compliant with the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981.
This qualification is nationally recognised and accredited, meeting the reuired standards set by HSE ensuring quality, consistency, and full regulatory compliance.
The course meets and exceeds the HSE’s minimum training standards for workplace first aid, ensuring learners are fully prepared to act as designated first aiders in both low and high-risk environments.
Completing this qualification ensures employers meet their legal duty to provide “adequate and appropriate” first aid provision in accordance with HSE guidance.
It is particularly suited to workplaces identified through risk assessment as requiring a higher level of first aid cover, such as construction, manufacturing, warehousing, hospitality, and other higher-risk industries.
Choosing Optimal First Aid for your FAW training means your organisation remains compliant, your first aiders are confident, and your workplace is safer.

EFAW is a one-day course focused on essential lifesaving skills suitable for low-risk workplaces like offices and shops. FAW is a more comprehensive three-day course aimed at higher-risk environments such as construction, factories, and outdoor work, covering a wider range of injuries and illnesses.
If you’re an employer, the law requires you to provide adequate first aid provision based on your workplace risks and staff numbers. This often means having trained first aiders on site with up-to-date qualifications.
Your FAW certificate is valid for three years. After that, you’ll need to complete a two-day requalification course to stay compliant and keep your skills fresh.
