Our Outdoor First Aid Training Courses in Cornwall are delivered at our Truro venue each month. The most popular first aid courses include the 16 Hours Outdoor First Aid and the Forest Schools First Aid courses (which can be run together) are delivered by Optimal First Aid’s Toby Osborne and his team who have been involved in delivering first aid training for over 15 years.
16 Hour Outdoor First Aid Course
The Outdoor First Aid course is an externally regulated qualification which meets the outdoor learning requirements set by the Institute for Outdoor Learning. This 16 Hour Outdoor First Aid course is recognised by Mountain Training, British Canoeing, RYA and many other national governing bodies as fulfilling the requirements for Outdoor First Aid. It is also perfect for Duke of Edinburgh Award staff and participants.
Forest School First Aid & Paediatraic Course
Forest Schools First Aid and Paediatric first aid for forest schools is a 2-day course. All our courses are a mix of practical sessions and casualty simulation exercises throughout that will embed the information required to work in the outdoor environment at all ages. The Paediatric First Aid qualification ensures that you have the appropriate adaptations to your first aid skills for use with children and satisfies the Early Years Foundation Stage practice guidance and statutory guidelines.

Optimal First Aid is not the usual first aid training company, our courses are different, and realistic to the outdoor environment. We have attended courses ourselves and seen the disengaged learners who fail to retain information by “boring” first aid courses. We believe that courses should be more than a ‘tick in the box’ exercise and that learners should be built up through quality training programs that take a pragmatic approach, focusing on the practical aspects of training.
Our instructors have extensive real-life experience of remote and outdoor working environments. The rigorous standards of content, instruction and examination are ensured through the use of a professional regulating body.
We have many different individuals and organisations from across the Southwest who have attended our courses and have excelled in all assessments. We tailor our courses and involve the learners to share experiences and considerations they have.
Our Outdoor First Aid training in Cornwall is run at Tomperrow Scout Campsite in Truro, but we can also deliver these first aid courses as group bookings at a venue of your choice. Please contact us for more information.
