Emergency First Aid at Work + Forestry (EFAW+F) Training in Devon & Cornwall

Emergency First Aid at Work + Forestry

Forestry First Aid Training for High-Risk Outdoor Environments

If you work in forestry, arboriculture, or remote outdoor environments, standard first aid training rarely reflects the reality of the job.

Injuries are often more severe, emergency response times are longer, and decisions need to be made in isolated, high-pressure conditions.

This Emergency First Aid at Work + Forestry (EFAW+F) course is designed specifically for those environments.

Delivered across Devon and Cornwall, the training focuses on practical, real-world incident management in high-risk outdoor settings where immediate access to emergency services cannot be assumed.

Whether you’re working in tree surgery, woodland management, land-based operations, or remote sites, this course equips you to act decisively when it matters most.

What is EFAW+F (Forestry First Aid)?

Emergency First Aid at Work + Forestry (EFAW+F) builds on the standard Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) Course, adding additional training for remote and high-risk environments.

While standard EFAW focuses on general workplace incidents, EFAW+F addresses the additional risks associated with remote and hazardous work, including:

  • Delayed emergency response in rural locations
  • High-energy trauma such as chainsaw injuries and falls from height
  • Environmental exposure including cold, wet, and remote conditions
  • Difficult access for emergency services

This course bridges the gap between basic workplace compliance and the realities of working in remote environments. You can explore our full range of First Aid Courses to find the right level of training for your role.

Who is this Course Designed For?

This training is suitable for individuals and teams working in higher-risk outdoor environments, including:

  • Arborists and tree surgeons
  • Forestry and woodland workers
  • Grounds maintenance teams
  • Land-based contractors
  • Outdoor instructors and activity providers
  • Utility and infrastructure workers in rural areas
  • Security teams operating in remote environments

If your work takes you away from immediate medical support, this course is built for you. For those operating in more remote or expedition environments, the Outdoor First Aid Course provides a more in-depth 2-day qualification

Why Standard First Aid Training Isn’t Enough in Forestry Environments

Delayed Emergency Response

In rural areas across Devon and Cornwall, response times can be significantly longer due to distance and access. First aiders must often manage casualties for extended periods.

High-Energy Trauma Risks

Chainsaws, heavy machinery, falling timber, and uneven terrain increase the likelihood of serious injury, requiring structured and effective response.

Remote and Difficult Terrain

From dense woodland in Devon to coastal and moorland environments in Cornwall, evacuation can be complex and requires planning and control.

Decision-Making Under Pressure

In many situations, you may be the first and only responder for a critical period. Confidence and clarity of action are essential.
