First Aid Courses for Schools:
Combined Emergency First Aid at Work & Emergency Paediatric First Aid
Many schools require staff to be prepared for both workplace first aid emergencies and incidents involving children. Rather than attending two separate courses, we offer the Qualsafe Awards Combined Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) and Emergency Paediatric First Aid (EPFA) qualification.
This regulated one-day course combines the essential elements of both qualifications, making it an excellent choice for schools, academies, nurseries and educational settings where staff may need to respond to emergencies involving colleagues, pupils or visitors.
The course covers:
- Adult CPR and use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
- Child and infant CPR
- Unresponsive adults, children and infants
- Choking management for adults, children and infants
- Severe bleeding and shock
- Minor injuries
- Seizures
- Asthma emergencies
- Anaphylaxis and severe allergic reactions
- Incident management and emergency procedures
This qualification is particularly suitable for:
- Primary Schools
- Secondary Schools
- Nurseries and Pre-Schools
- EYFS Settings
- Before and After School Clubs
- School Sports Staff
- Teaching Assistants
- Teachers and Support Staff
By completing a single course, delegates gain the knowledge and practical skills required to manage both workplace first aid incidents and paediatric emergencies, helping schools meet their first aid needs efficiently while minimising staff time away from the classroom.

FAQ
Which first aid course does our school need?
This depends on your school’s First Aid Needs Assessment, the age of pupils, school activities and any specific medical needs within your setting.
Can you deliver training on an INSET day?
Yes. We regularly provide on-site training during INSET days, staff development days and dedicated training sessions.
Do schools need allergy awareness training?
Schools should ensure staff are prepared to recognise and respond to severe allergic reactions and understand the procedures in place for pupils with allergies. Our dedicated School Allergy Awareness Training supports schools in meeting these expectations.
Can you provide training for Multi-Academy Trusts?
Yes. We regularly deliver training programmes for individual schools and Multi-Academy Trusts across the South West.

Highly recommended.Posted on Google Alan LowethTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I've just attended the Emergency Outdoor First Aid Course run by Toby. I've done First Aid at Work Training before and my Emergency First Aid at Work qualification is still in date. The Outdoor Course was a great refresher, but I also learnt a lot more that's relevant for my current conservation volunteering. Toby delivered a full-day course which included lots of practical exercises and left plenty of time to practice the various techniques. He kept everyone's attention for the whole day which was quite an achievement and I'd recommend Optimal First Aid to anyone who is looking for an engaging trainer who will draw on their own experience but put the focus on the training needs of the attendees.Posted on Google Robert ChristieTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.
